Meet Vicente Garcia - Winemaker (Pictured)

Vicente Garcia and his wife Ana Suria possess all of these qualities. Vicente, an oenologist trained in France who has directed some of the most prestigious Cava producing bodegas, always dreamed of making Cava in his native town of Requena, a land of great wine making heritage and part of the ancient Tharsys Iberia. Vicente singlehandedly waged a protracted legal battle for the right to produce Cava in his native lands, seeing off severe pressure from large Catalan producers intent on restricting the use of the term ‘Cava’ to themselves. Vicente eventually emerged victorious and, in doing so, has brought fortune to many local producers and has allowed the area to become a hallmark in producing magnificent Cava. With great determination Vicente and Ana have converted an ancient 200 year old estate into a modern bodega where tradition, experience and the latest technological advances all converge in the production of their wines.  Pago de Tharsys, is located in Requena, a place that gathers ideal condition: altitude, low rain rate, contrast of temperature that favor the obtention of a nice healthy fruit Luckily Pago de Tharsys in one of the few recognized “Pago” in Spain. So we can produce wines under 3 different appellations: “Vino de Pago”, DO Utiel – Requena and DO CAVA.vg
